Kapiti Food Fair is about to close for vendors at 200 sites
The Kapiti Food Fair is about ready to close for vendors at 200 sites. “This is more vendors than last year, and we believe it’s a good number and all are good quality to cater to the estimated 15,000+ visitors that are likely to come to the Fair”, says Helene Judge, co-owner of the Fair.
Vendor sites will include the united nations of ready to eat foods from under gazebo and food trucks, packaged F&B and related products. “The continued growth of the Fair confirms our belief that we are anchored as a major and sustainable event in Kapiti,” says Helene. The Fair is a current recipient of the Kapiti Mayor Events Fund, so it must achieve a 5:1 return on investment. In 2017 we achieved 10:1 ROI with the average visitor spend being $68 so we are excited by this result as it confirms the growth we expected – in 2016 it was 6:1.
Importantly, the Fair is also extending its hours from 10am to 4pm this year to capture more visitors who may not have attended in the past due to other commitments.
Previous Fairs have attracted a variety of artisan and commercial products and this year is no exception. Sites include, chocolates, sweets, fudges, turkish delight, licorice, toffee apples, jams, marmalade, jellies, relishes & pickles, pastes & syrups, sauces, dressings, vinegars, dips & spreads, pestos & salsas, dukkah, preserves.
Figs, peanut butter, nut butters, breads, baking & cupcakes, cheesecakes, donuts, macarons & pastries, wines, beers, champagne, cider, mead & ports, liqueurs, whiskey, gin & vodka, juices, cordials & soda, teas, coffee, chai & kombucha, olives & olive oils, nuts, salts, peppers, ice cream, popsicles, gelato & sorbet, koeksisters, popcorn & candyfloss, meats, pies, salami & sausages, cheeses, DIY kits, eel, smoked salmon, crab & fish.
Honey, health & balm products, microgreens, herbs, spices & rubs, rice & noodles, pizza bases, vegetable wraps, cracker bread, muesli, sprouts, fruits & veg, kitchenware, Tupperware & gadgets, henna art, recipe books, plant holders, handcrafted utensils & holders, pottery, chopping boards, spice racks, notice boards, plates & platters, tagines, pet foods, pepper grinders, mortal & pestles, eco & reusable bags & packaging, edible gardens, free range eggs & egg boxes.
Organic, vegan, raw, gluten & dairy free snacks & treats, and the united nations of ethnic foods.
Over the last few months we have been working hard behind the scenes making changes to our kid’s zones with new providers Bouncy Monkeys & JUMP, Adrenalin Kapiti Coast and Colossal Circus. This means there will be plenty of scope to bring the whole family for a fun foodie day out.
We are also increasing our entertainment zones to include the Beach FM Stage, the ZEAL Busking Zone and new to the Fair this year will be the Coastella Tiny Town Studio. Three stages will mean more talented performers for visitors to relax and watch the world go by as they shop and socialise.
Like last year, The Hits will run the Info Hub and the Tuatara Bar will be a great place to hang-out over a craft beer, boutique wine or cocktail. The Bar is BYO food and will welcome kids with a parent or guardian.
“The Celebrity Chef demonstration with Brett McGregor is sounding delicious and we can’t wait to host him in Kapiti,” says Jeanine, the other co-owner of the Fair. Brett needs little introduction – he describes himself as a Masterchef, Author, Teacher and a Food & Wine Ambassador. Winning Masterchef was the catalyst for him to follow his bliss and the development of his culinary skills can only be attributed to one person: the boss – aka his mother! While his mum’s influence helped Brett learn important skills, it was through his mum and dad’s travels that he was first introduced to new flavours from all over the world. His cooking style is tasty, fresh, seasonal and easily achievable. Brett says, "food doesn’t have to be complicated to be delicious."
Our marketing is clicking in to top gear with billboards all around Kapiti-Horowhenua. This year we have five large billboards in Wellington along with digi signs in most regional shopping malls and posters plastered around Wellington CBD. “We sincerely hope our promotion is acted upon by thousands so our philosophy of, filling your life with good friends, good times & good food can be enjoyed by many on the day,” says Jeanine.
The Fair is shaping up to be a big day out so note your calendar – Sat 1 Dec | 10am to 4pm | Mazengarb Reserve | Entry <18 free, $8/adult or $12/adult with canvas shopping bag (cash at gate). Kapiti Kruzer will run a FREE hourly bus circuit from Paraparaumu Railway Station to Mazengarb Reserve.
