Spread the word, not the virus inside your bubble! Kapiti Run for Youth Goes Virtual

Sometime ago Kapiti Run for Youth started repositioning the event to take place virtually as we progressed to Alert Level 4.  We hope this article helps you to participate in a fun, community event – inside your bubble!

KR4Y Goes Virtual

Having been out with my bubble-members for my daily exercise in my local area over the past few days, I have seen a lot of you out doing the same thing.  All well within the Alert Level 4 rules with everyone behaving with common sense and obeying the two-metre rule!

Did you know you could combine this activity with joining in on a community activity and helping to raise funds for Kapiti youth-based causes?

Kapiti Run for Youth – an event that has run every year for the past 10 years raising more than $150,000 for the local community was scheduled for Sunday 29 March on the beach between Paraparaumu and Raumati.  That was obviously cancelled (just as well because it was a grotty day!) BUT the event itself is not cancelled – it has just gone virtual and is now in a format that is compatible with Alert Level 4.

What this means is the criteria for completion of the event are now VERY flexible.  All you need to qualify is clock up at least 6kms of walking or running (doesn't have to be all at one time) in your neighbourhood during the four-week lockdown period (until Friday 24 April) and that's it!

Walking or running for exercise in your own locality is a totally acceptable activity during Alert Level 4, so there is no suggestion you will be breaking the rules or putting yourself, anyone else or the community in danger.  You just have to do it in your local area ALONE, or with others in your BUBBLE, keeping two metres from others and using common sense.

One of the main reasons we are persevering with the event in this format – as well as to raise money for some great local causes – is to provide an alternative way for us to come together as a community at a time when coming together in the traditional way is not an option for us.

We’d love you to get involved and pass on the word to others in the community!  Why not suggest it to your other bubble-members as an activity to do as a bubble sometime over the next four weeks?  Get some exercise while benefiting the local community at the same time! And challenge other bubbles you know to do the same!

While the beneficiaries of the fundraising are Kapiti-based, you don’t even need to be in Kapiti to participate.  Feel free to spread the word and sign up anywhere in New Zealand (or even the world if this does not violate your own lockdown rules).

So get sharing this around the community.  I’d rather see this go viral than you know what!

To get involved, just register online and sponsor your own profile just $5 (which we have reduced from the normal $20 to include as many locals as possible) – DONE – SIMPLE – every little bit helps for our Fundraising Partners >>

Fundraising Partners (ie those that benefit from the fundraising): Challenge for Change, Kapiti Basketball Association, Kapiti College, Kapiti Youth Support, Otaki College, Paraparaumu College, Shed Project Kapiti, ZEAL Kapiti, 49 Squadron Air Cadets.

When you have completed your walk or run, post details – preferably with a pic – on the Kapiti Run for Youth Facebook page – (by leaving a comment on the PINNED post at the top of the page).

All those leaving comments on the post will be eligible to win one of the following prizes.  We will notify you if you are a winner and then figure out an appropriate way to get your prize (when the time is right):
